About OceanLaw

OceanLaw Information and Consultancy Services (“OceanLaw”) was established in 1998 and is now recognized as a leading provider of expertise on the law of the sea, with a particularly strong record in international, European and domestic fisheries law and international environmental law in its application to ocean issues. OceanLaw is a private initiative designed to carry out law of the sea research, resource development and consultancy and works through a small core ‘secretariat’ and a large network of associates, many of whom are among the leading experts in their field (click here for details of our people). OceanLaw can provide expertise in the following areas:

bullet

international, regional (including EU) and domestic fisheries law

bullet

protection of the marine environment and marine and coastal biodiversity

bullet

seabed mining and exploration

bullet

navigation, shipping and flagging

bullet

maritime space, including maritime boundary issues

bullet

marine scientific research

bullet

settlement of disputes under the law of the sea.

In these areas OceanLaw has developed, or is involved in developing, a number of leading information resources and publications and OceanLaw associates carry out consultancy and research work for international organizations, EU institutions, national governments, NGOs and private enterprises.

Among the major research resources developed by OceanLaw are the Internet Guide to International Fisheries Law website and two periodicals: International Fisheries Law and Policy Review and Current Developments in International Fisheries Law and Policy. OceanLaw is also currently engaged in developing similar publications for the entire subject area of the law of the sea, including an ocean law legal database. In 2006, OceanLaw established a specific publishing programme to manage its increasing publication portfolio - Ocean Law Publishing.
