New publication - Marine Protected Areas: Some Legal Issues
18 March 08
A new paper by OceanLaw Director
Chris Hedley was published this week by the
ASCOBANS Secretariat. Chris was commissioned to write a short paper (5 pages) reviewing some of the practical legal issues involved in establishing marine protected areas for a policy-oriented workshop on
"Selection Criteria for Marine Protected Areas for Cetaceans", which took place in Spain in April 2008. The Workshop was convened by the
ASCOBANS and
ACCOBAMS Secretariats and the European Cetacean Society (ECS).
The paper provides a short review of some of the legal issues involved in establishing marine protected areas in domestic legislation. The proceedings were published by
ASCOBANS this week, and the results of the Workshop are to be presented to the
15th meeting of the
ASCOBANS Advisory Committee, which takes place in
Germany in March 2008.
