Consultancy work |

|
Chris is internationally recognized as an expert in the law of the sea and has been engaged as an adviser and consultant on
many projects for a wide-range of bodies including international
organizations, the EU institutions, national governments,
non-governmental organizations and private enterprise clients, including other consultancy firms. Specific experience includes work on:
fisheries:
EEZ fisheries; high seas fisheries; multilateral
and bilateral fisheries agreements, including fisheries
access agreements; IUU fishing; fisheries enforcement; EU
fisheries law; domestic fisheries legislation in various
jurisdictions; whaling,
protection
of the marine environment: implementation of
international environmental agreements; marine protected
areas; marine pollution; conservation of marine biodiversity
and habitats,
law
of the sea: vessel registration (including the
"genuine link"); marine scientific research; maritime
boundary delimitation and claims; general questions on the
law of the sea. |

Research and academic work |
|
|
Chris is an experienced researcher and maintains an extensive
research and publication output, including more than 50
publications to date. This
publishing output comprises: a number of major research
projects, including the
Internet Guide to
International Fisheries Law and
International Fisheries Law and Policy Portal projects;
a number of book projects, including books on multilateral
and bilateral fisheries agreements and EU fisheries law; and
several articles in peer-reviewed journals and other forums. His principal area of
research interest is
international and EU fisheries law, where he has published on
international fisheries agreements, IUU fishing, fisheries
enforcement, marine protected areas, bycatch,
whaling and the Common Fisheries Policy. Chris has also published on UK fisheries law, the law of the sea
and international environmental law. Chris is on the Editorial
Boards of a number of journals and publications. |

Training / teaching |
|
|
Chris has provided training/teaching covering a range of subject matters (law of the sea, European and international fisheries law, general principles of EU law and public international law)
and given a number of presentations at international
conferences and workshops. Training has included university and other academic teaching and professional training seminars (both to other lawyers and to non-lawyers).

Project management |
|
|
Chris is an experienced project manager, having led various consultancy assignments,
and he has demonstrated success in competitive tendering. He
also designs and manages editorial, research and
publications systems for OceanLaw publications and runs the OceanLaw business. |

|
Through his professional work, Chris has developed a variety of other skills and experience, including (at international, European and domestic levels) legal drafting, negotiation,
mediation and advocacy. |
