Policy Coherence for Development and the Effects of EU Fisheries Policies on Development in West Africa
European Parliament (Development Committee) (March 2007)

Ocean Law Consultants provided extensive support to the consultants engaged in this project, drafting major contributions to the report. The report, for the European Parliament's Development Committee, examines issues of policy coherence between EU development and fisheries policies in West Africa.

The UN Convention on the Law of the Sea: Development, Challenges and Perspectives
European Parliament (Fisheries Committee) (July 2006)

Study by Ocean Law Consultants in a joint project with MegaPesca LDA (Portugal) for the European Parliament. The study examines current successes and challenges concerning the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, with particular reference to fisheries and EU oceans policies.

High Seas Task Force on IUU Fishing
Evaluating Flag State Performance
OECD/High Seas Task Force (March 2005-March 2006)

Ocean Law Consultants provided programme support to the High Seas Task Force on IUU Fishing (HSTF) work on port State and flag State controls, developed a methodology to assess flag State performance in addressing IUU fishing and carried out an indicative evaluation using the methodology.

Framework Contract on Fisheries Partnership Agreements (FPAs)
European Commission (March 2005 - April 2007)

Ocean Law participated in the first European Commission Framework Contract for Performing Evaluations, Impact Analyses and Monitoring Services in the Context of Fisheries Partnership Agreements (FPAs), a project led by Poseidon ARM (United Kingdom), MegaPesca (Portugal) and Oceanic Développement (France). Ocean Law contributed to the analyses concerning agreements with northern European countries (Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Norway).

The Implications of the UN Fish Stocks Agreement for RFMOs

Joint study by Ocean Law and researchers from the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea (NILOS), examining the implications and implementation of the UN Fish Stocks Agreement for/by regional fisheries management organizations. Published as European Parliament Working Paper Fish 112 (2003).

Contribution by Chris Hedley to a project for the European Commission, involving a number of consultancy partners, examining the costs and benefits of compliance with fisheries regulations in Denmark, Scotland, Germany and the Netherlands. Chris' contribution focussed on legal issues in Denmark and Scotland.
