Objectives

The objective of the Convention is to ensure, through appropriate management, the conservation and optimum utilisation of southern bluefin tuna. [Article 3]

Southern bluefin tuna. [Article 1]

 - Geographic

The Convention does not define any specific geographical area, although presumably applies wherever Southern bluefin tuna are distributed and fished by the parties.

Organizational mechanism

Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna. In 2001, the members of CCSBT agreed to establish an "Extended Commission" to enable the participation of non-State fishing entities (see CCSBT Resolution 2001-4).
