The Castries Declaration was adopted on 24
November 1989 by the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States meeting in
Castries, Saint Lucia. Reflecting the widespread concern at the time regarding
drift net fishing, the Declaration outlined the concerns of OECS members
regarding this type of fishing practice and set out a number of resolutions to
take action to prevent it in the OECS region.
